Tree also has long seed pods and white flowers depending on time of year. When photographed in late August, tree had pods forming that had not yet dropped to the ground.

Proposed planting: Most likely planted by humans as it is on the property line and away from the street. Although there are several catalpas near by, this seems to be the largest one so they may have come from seeds from this older tree. This neighborhood has been built since the 1900's and this type of tree was popular in landscaping in the mid-century. Not originally native to Michigan as the natural growing environment is Southern Indiana, Illinois.
